Please consider the following ideas as a way to help your child discover
their gift:
* If a family event needs to be organized, ask your child what has to
be done for it to be successful. This could reveal if the child is an
organizer.
* Take your child to a nursing home to visit with shut-ins. Observe if
their heart goes out to people bound in beds and wheel chairs. Another
place might be the church nursery. If you see a spark of light in their
eyes afterwards, they maybe a mercy person. If they didn’t enjoy
the experience, then move on to other opportunities.
* Bring your child to workdays at the church and give them a significant
job that is appropriate for their age. For example, don’t send a
little boy on the roof to repair a leak.
* If they seem to be energized by setting up a room, or cleaning it, then
they may have a gift of serving. Perhaps they can work in the kitchen
serving food to people.
* If your church has a prayer group, bring your child along and train
him or her how to pray conversationally with other people. If they seem
to get turned on by prayer, your child may be a budding prophet.
